THE HACKSPACE

09.25.2022 by Scott Coe // Leave a Comment

I’m really upset to hear of the current difficulties befalling The HackSpace in Bretton, Peterborough.
I have watched with admiration how Tyler has built up this community project and workspace and seen the community of members grown.
See the recent news story in the Peterborough Telegraph
I’ve every confidence that they will get things up and running again soon – in the meantime if you want to find out more about the project, visit their website
https://www.thehackspace.co.uk/

In November 2021 I had the pleasure of a flash poetry residency at The HackSpace in Peterborough, which inspired this video I made for Peterborough’s Syntax Festival.
In tribute to Tyler and The HackSpace Community, I am sharing it again, this time in support of their current struggle and wish them all the best in getting this brilliant project back up and running again, either in their current location or a new home!
It’s great to have such facilities in the local community and it’s important to fight to keep them going.

Moods of a Nation

09.18.2022 by Scott Coe // Leave a Comment

‘Moods of a Nation’

The bells toll
A nation mourns
A monarch dies
Emotions torn
A newsreader says
The mood of the nation
Then moves on
To rising inflation
So, what is…
The mood of the nation
What can we read
From this quotation
When moods are many
Is it right to say
The evening news
With this cliche

So maybe this moment
A monarch’s death
Is time to pause
To take a breath

Some are sad
Others indifferent
Some are vocal
Some are silent
We all react
In different tones
On social media
Or mobile phones
Some will challenge
Whilst others protect
We just deserve
Each other’s respect
Some take to the streets
Some stay at home
Some need a friend
Or to be alone

So maybe this moment
A monarch’s death
Is time to pause
To take a breath

Lockdown, Covid
Mental health
War on our doorstep
Division of wealth
We’ve been through a lot
These last few years
We’ve loved and lost
We’ve shed some tears
Opinions divided
In referendums
Too many cracks
And so much tension
Earth is in pain
With unusual weather
We need some time
To come together

So maybe this moment
A monarch’s death
Is time to pause
To take a breath

Some things may change
Some will remain
One way or another
We’re all in pain
These recent times
Have caused a strain
Don’t let our hopes
All die in vain
Some will drink
Others will grieve
Some will cry
Or seek reprieve
Some will reflect
Or take their leave
Just be at peace
Take time to breathe.
