My offering for this year’s National Poetry Day on the theme of The Environment…
‘The Only Place’
You are one of a kind
Irreplaceable
A place of wonders
Wild and beautiful
You are the one
Our home and Earth
The only place we have
In this universe
You are the one
There is no other
We are but children
You are our mother
And if you should die
Then so would we
There is no place
That we could flee
For space is cold
And Mars is dead
There is no life
In dust so red
You are the one
Our home and Earth
The only place we have
In this universe
You are the one
But are diseased
With foolish creatures
Polluting seas
And if we kill you
Where can we go
There’s nowhere else
Of which we know
For space is cold
And Venus hot
It’s nothing but
A melting pot
You are the one
Our home and Earth
The only place we have
In this universe
You are the one
That we now choke
With soot and gas
And acrid smoke
And if we loose you
Who would know
Space too empty
To hear our echo
For space is cold
Our home is here
It needs our love
So treat it dear.
